The Progressive Unionist Party

Post by Netherking Land on Thu Jul 06, 2017 2:56 pm

Our Manifesto

Human rights need to be fought for constantly.  The Progressive Unionists will defend
the European Convention on Human Rights against any attempts to
repeal it, and we argue for three key policies that address the structural
inequalities that hold us all back.

The right to work and the right to a family life are human rights.
Universal free early-years education and childcare for 2 - 4 year olds will
enable young parents to balance work and family life, and will reduce
inequality in children's development in these critical years.
Low-quality and overpriced housing causes avoidable poverty and
health problems. A distorted housing market is damaging the lives of
an entire generation. TPUN needs to build more homes, and local councils should be permitted to borrow against future rental income to build social housing.

The most pressing human rights issues in TPUN are to do with
women's rights. There is a moral obligation on the Government to
intervene in two key areas: violence against women, and equal pay. We
call for a nationally funded network of rape crisis centres, and for
gender pay audits to be mandatory for large employers.

We will establish run off elections for when groups running for parliament have an equal number of votes.
We will also extend this to elections for the President and Prime Minister, so that if the candidates have equal votes a by-election will be called.
The Progressive Unionist Party will support the creation of an interstellar map, made in a similar manner to the regional map.
It is a government’s duty to protect its citizens from poverty and injury with a strong health service and well-funded welfare state.
We believe that governments should work together for the common good, and support international projects such as the UN and the EU.
The Progressive Unionist Party believes in democracy and will seek to enact it wherever practical.
We believe in freedom of thought and speech, and will protect these rights.
